This two-page Show Don't Tell writing activity helps students learn the difference between showing and not telling in writing, encouraging the use of vivid verbs, dialogue, descriptive writing, figurative language, and more, to improve upon their writing. Students are given several examples of "showing, rather than telling" using different techniques. They are then guided through an activity in which they take a "tell" statement and "show" what's happening, indicating which technique they used to "show." Students are then asked to answer several questions, using vivid language, descriptive writing, and more to answer the questions, practicing "showing, rather than telling."
Great quick practice for writing - the handout is two pages and ready to go! Use with your Writer's Workshops, centers, independent study, interactive writing notebooks, and more!
